Max Markham is a 2L at NYU Law, where he received a Root-Tilden-Kern public interest scholarship and where he chairs the Black Allied Law Students Association (BALSA). Prior to law school, Max spent six years working in local government and political campaigns, most recently serving as Chief of Staff in the Mayor’s Office of Policy & Planning, and as Legislative & Special Projects Manager to the First Deputy Mayor. In the de Blasio administration, he gained experience working on federal, state and local legislation related to criminal justice and public safety, education, infrastructure and cultural affairs. Prior to City Hall, Max worked for the New York State Senate, and has previous experience working on major political campaigns at the state and local level. Max graduated from Stanford University with a major in International Relations. He hopes to use his time in law school and skills gained from City and State government to help address systematic inequality in the criminal justice system that leads to over-policing, mass incarceration and disenfranchisement.
