My name is Elisabeth R. Bernard and I am the Social Action Chair of CUNY BLSA. I am a native of New York, originally from Brownsville Brooklyn. I attended CW Post- Long Island University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice studies with a concentration in juvenile justice. Shortly after graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I did work in my own community, for the Center for Court Innovation, at the Brownsville Community Justice Center. During my time with the center, I worked with court-involved youth by providing, creating, and engaging alternative to incarceration programs for youth facing low-level misdemeanor convictions. My time at the Center for Court Innovation further pushed my passion of attending law school and becoming an advocate for today’s youth. During my first year of law school, I completed a master’s degree in Youth Studies at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. It is my continued hope to be a mirror, advocate, and mentor to youth from communities like my own.
