Andrea Rivers is a part-time, second-year student at American University Washington College of Law (WCL) and full-time Legal Assistant for the health practice group and information technology department of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld LLP in Washington, D.C. In her role at Akin Gump, she has performed extensive client work within the pro bono department in areas of housing in the District of Columbia, parole hearing representation, and community development. She aspires to pursue a career in corporate law – specifically in either an area of antitrust or international commercial arbitration.
Andrea is also involved in multiple organizations on WCL’s campus. She currently serves as Treasurer of WCL’s Black Law Student Association school chapter; she’s a Student Representative for Barbri, a bar exam preparation program; and she is the Director of the Pre- Law Division for the Mid-Atlantic region of National Black Law Students Association.
Andrea was appointed to the role of Pre-Law Director based on her success in obtaining legal internships throughout high school and college and participating in several pre-law programs prior to enrolling in law school. In 2011, Andrea earned a Discus award and scholarship for her dedication to legal work.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics, cum laude, in 2016 from Howard University where she was a member of the International Economics Honors Society. Andrea is originally from Brooklyn, New York and currently resides in Rockville, Maryland with her dog, Zeus.
